Mathematics

Primary Mathematics is the Common Core textbook series that has been adopted for Todd school. Primary Mathematics is designed to provide students with a strong foundation in mathematics by including fewer topics and teaching these topics in-depth so mastery can be achieved. By focusing on mathematical understanding, the program is designed to help students develop logical and critical thinking and the essential lifelong skill of problem solving. Students are introduced to the concrete-pictorial-abstract approach (CPA). The CPA approach enables students to encounter math in a meaningful way by providing multiple models to approach a math concept at different cognitive levels. In addition, the CPA approach allows students to understand mathematical concepts before learning the "rules" or formulaic expressions. Students use the CPA approach to demonstrate understanding of a task in mathematics.

Primary Digital is an online curriculum that is aligned directly with the Primary Mathematics textbook that Todd teachers are also integrating into instruction. Primary Digital emanates from the same philosophy and pedagogy as Primary Mathematicsand provides teachers and students with multi-media technology that is engaging and meaningful.

With full implementation of Primary Mathematics and Primary Digital, students will think as mathematicians and develop the dispositions to be effective problem solvers, exploring possibilities and making real-world connections, indispensable life-long skills.
