Sixth Graders Explore Creating a Media Balance

Middle school is all about balance. Having a healthy balance, especially when it comes to media usage – is one way to ensure you are making the most of your time as a teen.

Sixth graders in Guidance Counselor Sara Piersons’ Advisory class explored the subject of creating balance with their media usage and other activities, such as spending time with family and friends, and making time for schoolwork and hobbies.

At a recent media literacy lesson, students began by taking inventory of objects, listing items they currently have in their backpacks, such as binders, books, pencils and sunscreen.

Middle School Students Hold a Sweet Sixteen Competition Based on French Songs

Step aside, sports fans; there’s a new Sweet Sixteen competition in town.

Briarcliff Middle School French students in grades six, seven and eight are participating in Manie Musicale 2024.

The competition features current songs played on the radio in French-speaking countries. The songs go head-to-head to see which students think are the best in a Sweet Sixteen bracket format.

Briarcliff Middle School Students Take a Stand

What is the story of a Briarcliff student? And why do stories matter?

Eight graders in Maggie White’s “Storytelling for Change” enrichment class at Briarcliff Middle School explore these questions, along with a range of examples of storytelling from podcasts to Ted Talks to Author's Notes to poetry, and ultimately choose the best format to tell their own story.  

Recently, in honor of Black History Month, students explored the question “Why is the story of Black History month an important story to tell?”
