Tier Two District

Briarcliff Manor Union Free School District

Attendance Policy

Regular attendance is important to your child’s success in school. Therefore, parents are asked to schedule doctor’s appointments and other obligations after school hours. They are also discouraged from planning vacations that overlap with school days.

Students are expected to complete their homework, assignments and tests missed due to absence immediately upon their return to school. Daily homework and other class materials are posted to One Note or on Teams, which you can access with your child’s login and password.  Assignments and exams cannot be provided in advance of an illegal absence.

Absences:

  • Parents are asked to contact the middle school office each day a child will be absent. Parents may use the School Dismissal app to notify us of absences, late arrivals and early dismissals. Alternately, parents may call the attendance line, 914-769-6343 extension 1. As a safety measure, we will call parents whose children are absent and have not contacted the school. Students must be in attendance during the day, arriving no later than 10 a.m. to participate in after school activities.

Tardy:

  • Students who arrive at school after 8:35 a.m. must sign in and receive a late pass prior to going to class. Continual lateness will result in detention.

Early Dismissal:

  • The office must be notified when students will be signed out of school prior to dismissal. Parents are asked to notify us via School Dismissal or by sending a note to the office with their child. Students will be given an early dismissal pass, and parents must come into the office to sign out their child when picking up.

  • Please note that we cannot disrupt classes to call students for early dismissal.  Please plan ahead and use School Dismissal to avoid this.

  • Under no circumstances are students permitted to leave school grounds while classes are in session without permission from the school nurse or the principal’s office. Students must be signed out in the main office by a parent or guardian.

School Transportation:

  • For safety purposes, students are expected to ride only their assigned school bus.

  • We ask that you work with your child to plan play dates and activities.  We further ask that you exercise the bus pass option with prudence. We will not be able to manage requests that arrive after 10:00, and we cannot interrupt classes to deliver bus passes.  As always, in the event of a true emergency, please call the main office directly for assistance at 769-6343.
