OVERVIEW: Rho Kappa Social Studies Honor Society is the only national organization for high school juniors and seniors that recognizes excellence in the field of Social Studies. RHO KAPPA provides national recognition and opportunities for exploration in the social studies.
MISSION STATEMENT: The mission and the purposes of this organization shall be: • to promote scholarship and to recognize academic excellence in social studies among Briarcliff High School students; • to provide opportunities for exploration in the social studies in school and the community; • to encourage interest in, understanding of, and appreciation for the social studies.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Achieve a final unweighted grade average of 90% or better in full year social studies courses as it appears on the student transcript. The GPA will not be rounded up.
• Achieve a cumulative weighted average of 90% as it appears on the student transcript. The GPA will not be rounded up.
• The application process will require candidates to show participation in activities that demonstrate civic engagement in school and/or community and their desire and aspiration to be a member of the organization.
• Applicants must have above and beyond the required number of community service hours (8) and/or participation in school/community organizations that demonstrate a commitment to civic engagement.
• Applicant must have a completed and signed evaluation form from two social studies teachers.
• Applicant must be a student of good character upholds principles of morality and ethics (has no infractions of academic integrity), is cooperative, demonstrates high standards of honesty and reliability, and shows courtesy, concern, and respect for others. Refer to Briarcliff District Code of Conduct Section VI Academic Conduct.
• All required elements must be submitted before the submission deadline of Tuesday, October 8, 2019
DATE/LOCATION OF INDUCTION: Tuesday, October 15, 2019 – 2:30 in the Middle School Little Theater.
RESPONSIBILITIES/EXPECTATIONS: Members will be expected to: • To fulfill a need, to be decided by the membership each year, within the school or community or provide a service to either group; • To attend meetings and guest speaker presentations; • Students must adhere to the Briarcliff District Code of Conduct, Section VI Academic Conduct.
