Even a pandemic couldn’t stop the music in Briarcliff High School.
Four seniors have spent the past few months meeting, practicing and preparing their All-State musical repertoire for individual performances videos. Their hard work paid off and all were recently selected for All-Stat ensembles with the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA), and will perform in a virtual concert this coming March.
Harrison Beckler will sing bass in the All-State Mixed Chorus, Ari Mirski will play percussion in the All-State Concert Band, Ethan Schwartz will play double bass in the All-State String Orchestra and Brian Zhou will play oboe in the All-State Symphony Orchestra.
Each musician is also a member of the Briarcliff Chapter 3229 of the Tri-M Music National Honor Society.
In addition, Brian, who also plays the English horn, has been selected to the biennial All-Eastern Honors Concert Band. He will participate in a “Virtual Weekend” in March, which include masterclasses with professional musicians, rehearsals with conductors, and more. This experience will culminate in a concert in the end of April.
Their teachers, Dr. John C. Banks for chorus, Devon Toland for band and Michael Fraioli for orchestra, noted the students’ hard work over the past years and were thrilled with their accomplishments.
“I am very proud of Ethan and Brian for all their hard work and dedication to orchestral playing. Acceptance into the All-State Orchestras is quite an achievement!” Mr. Fraioli said.
