Retirement Information

Whether you are new to teaching or approaching retirement, it is important to understand your benefit options. The New York State Teachers' Retirement System (TRS) and the New York State Employees' Retirement System (ERS) offer retirement benefits, including pension income and health insurance options, to eligible employees in New York State. In addition to these pension systems, the District offers access to voluntary tax-advantaged retirement savings plans, including 403(b) and 457 plans, which allow employees to save additional funds for retirement through payroll deductions with approved vendors.

Employees are encouraged to contact TRS, ERS, or their selected 403(b)/457 plan provider directly for detailed information and personalized support to make informed decisions and maximize their retirement benefits. *The District is unable to provide retirement advice or guidance.

Instructional personnel and administrators are eligible to join the NYS Teachers' Retirement System (TRS)

All other employees may be eligible to join the NYS Employees' Retirement System (ERS).

All full-time teachers and 12-month employees are required to join a retirement system. Part-time teachers and 10-month employees have the option to join, but must sign a waiver if they choose not to. Employees who are not mandated to join may do so at any time, and it is advisable to join early to begin accruing time toward vesting.

Membership forms for both systems are available on Frontline Central.

It is the employee's responsibility to contact TRS or ERS when they decide to retire and to review the various benefit options available to them. Retirement from the district is governed by the contractual agreements of the employee's bargaining unit.
