Professional Development

The 15 District Professional Hours each year, are intended to help teachers support continuous learning and training necessary to remain current in the field of education and technology.  Unless otherwise specified or pre-approved, these hours should happen during the school year and with minimal interference with assigned instruction and duties.  

School Day and After-School Workshops/Opportunities: Can be taken toward District Hours or credit when applicable)

May include IDE workshops, Apple workshops, courses by consultants hired by the district, and teacher proposed courses approved by the Professional Development Committee (PDC) and District. 

Summer Workshops/Opportunities: Can be taken toward District Hours, pay, or credit when applicable)  

May include but not limited to: IDE workshops, Apple Coaching, Teacher Led courses, courses by consultants hired by the district, etc. 

Courses offered for credit must be pre-approved by a School Building Administrator and the Director of Curriculum & Instruction and must be offered by an accredited college or university institution. Request for approval must be entered in Frontline using the Request for Graduate form, at least 10 days before the course commences.  

The professional growth section of Frontline contains all of the forms necessary to request proposals for courses/ summer work, request to attend conferences, graduate credit, 15 District hours log and more.

All new teachers to Briarcliff will receive at least 15 hours of mentoring and 30 hours if the new teacher is new to the profession from two Briarcliff staff members.
