Health & Safety Policies

If you experience an injury or a threat of violence during your workday, please let your building or department supervisor know right away so we can ensure your safety and respond appropriately.

Please also complete an Incident Report/Workers’ Compensation Employee Claim Form, which can be found in Frontline Central → My Forms → Forms I Can Start.

Even if you do not plan to file a formal Workers’ Compensation claim, all incidents that occur on district property must still be reported. This helps us keep everyone safe and ensures proper documentation.

The District has adopted several policies that address hygiene precautions and procedures with situations where there is the possibility of exposure with blood or other body fluids. These procedures state that, except in life saving situations, all employees shall wear rubber gloves when treating open cuts, scrapes, or spills of blood or other body fluids. A supply of gloves is maintained in every building.  

Employees exposed to blood or other body fluids, should download and complete Exposure Reporting Forms.

Employees shall not possess any firearm, electronic weapon or device, destructive device or other weapon on the property of any school or school campus at any time. 

All staff are required to be trained on how to recognize and respond to allergic reactions.  Staff may attend an in-person training given by the nurse OR complete an online training: NYS Department of Health/NYS Department of Education approved webinar. Teachers (and other staff caring for the student) will be sent an emergency care plan for any student that requires an Epi-Pen.  Employees are asked to print out the emergency care plan for their records and other staff working with the student, i.e.. substitute teachers.  Any employee in need of a refresher on the administration of an Epi-Pen can see the school nurse to set up a training session. 

All field trip request forms must be submitted 30 days before the trip with the list of students attending.  Additionally, it is the teacher’s responsibility to have the emergency care plans and the emergency first aid bag with them during the trip.  The first aid bag can be picked up in the health office prior to leaving for the trip. 

Teachers running an afterschool activity, must review their student roster for any medical issues who may require a rescue medication, seizures, diabetes, etc.  All staff involved in afterschool activities such as musicals, plays, etc. are encouraged to be CPR/AED certified.  At least one staff member who is CPR/AED certified must be present on-site for school-sponsored after-school activities, such as musicals, plays, etc.
