Attendance Policies

Attendance is a crucial aspect of being a reliable and dedicated employee, especially in a school environment where consistency directly impacts students’ learning and development. As educators and staff members, we play a vital role in shaping young minds, providing stability, and fostering a supportive atmosphere for students to thrive. Regular attendance demonstrates professionalism, responsibility, and a commitment to the success of both students and colleagues. When employees are present and engaged, it ensures smooth operations, effective collaboration, and a positive school culture. Every absence can create challenges, making it essential to prioritize attendance and uphold the responsibility of being a dependable role model for the students we serve.

Time Clock

Staff members are required to swipe their ID badge using the Frontline Time & Attendance time clocks when arriving on campus and when leaving campus for any reason. Time clocks are located outside of each school’s Main Office and other key locations. It is important for safety and security purposes to have an accurate accounting of attendance in all buildings.

When you are absent from school, you are required to enter your absence in Frontline – Absence Management. Please see your contract or salary agreement regarding the number of days available to you.

Employees may use Absence Management to help track your "Absence Reason Balances". You can check your balances directly via your Absence Management application.

Family Illness, Parental Leave, and Personal Illness all draw from the same Sick Day Balance. To determine your total available days, refer to the Sick Day Deductions row.
While Family Illness and Parental Leave have specific limits within the overall balance, they are not additional days—they are part of the total Sick Day Balance.

Absence Reasons

Absences may be entered in half day or full day increments ONLY.

Personal Illness

Used when an employee is sick and unable to attend work.

Family Illness

May be used when an employee must be absent because the illness of a child, spouse, parent, or a relative who resides in the home necessitates the absence of such employee.

Personal Days

Used to conduct personal business which cannot be conducted outside of the workday.

BTA members may take up to two (2) personal leave days without a reason. The remaining three (3) days shall require the submission of a reason (in Frontline Absence Management).

Personal days will not be granted to BTA members on the day before or after a school holiday or recess period without prior approval by the Superintendent. BTA members seeking approval, must complete the Personal Day Request (BTA) Prior/Post Holiday - Unique exceptions form on Frontline Central. Requesting the day does not guarantee approval.

Bereavement

Used for arrangements or travel when a member of an employee’s immediate family dies, up to five (5) days.

Vacation

For non-instructional, full-time staff may be used for vacations as designated in the applicable salary agreements or collective bargaining contracts. However, in all cases, requests to utilize accrued vacation time must be approved by a supervising administrator.
