Dear Parents and Students,

According  to the National Safety Council, one of the leading causes of car accidents is texting and driving. Texting while driving is an increasingly common practice across all ages. Statistics report that an alarming one in five drivers text while behind the wheel which is the cause of 27% of all traffic incidents.

In an effort to continually educate our students and instill proper judgement while driving, the HS administration has partnered with the PTA to provide the Hang Up and Drive Program to our driving age students.

On March 21st, during period 6, in the District Auditorium, students in grades 11 and 12 and sophomores registered for the spring session of Driver Education will attend the Hang Up and Drive presentation by Jacy Good and Steve Johnson.  Jacy recounts her tragic story of returning home to PA with her parents after her college graduation day, only to be victim of a distracted driver.  Hang up and Drive has been presented to over 900 audiences in 36 states since 2011 and is endorsed by the National Safety Council.  The website www.hangupanddrive.com provides further information.

We once again thank the high school PTA for their tireless efforts to help keep our children safe through their support of programs like this.

Sincerely,

Debora French, Principal
