September 2022
Dear Junior Parents and Students:
The Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test (PSAT) will be given at Briarcliff High School on Wednesday, October 12th from 8:30am-12:30pm. Students must be at the high school by 8:30am with two #2 pencils and a calculator with fresh batteries. Room locations will be posted in the high school main lobby.
All Juniors are required to sit for this test. This test is a preliminary or practice for the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT), which most students take in the spring of junior year. The rationale for taking the PSAT is as follows:
- Students receive feedback on strengths and weaknesses on skills necessary for college study. Students are able to focus on preparation on those areas that could most benefit from additional study or practice.
- Students are able to see how their performance on an admissions test might compare with that of others applying to college.
- Students are entered into the competition for scholarships from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (grade 11).
- Students are able to prepare for the SAT. They can become familiar with the kinds of questions and the exact directions which will be seen on the SAT.
- Students receive information from colleges, if desired.
To register for the test, a student must bring a check in the amount of $25.00 payable to Briarcliff UFSD in an envelope with their name and grade on it to the Main Office; Attention Ms. Rutledge. Registration must be completed no later than Friday, September 23, 2022.
Upon receipt of your registration fee, a PSAT Student Bulletin will be given to your child.
Junior test takers take the bus to school will arrive at BHS on their regular Briarcliff/Pocantico morning bus. Upon completion of the exam, students may take either a Briarcliff/Pocantico 12:30pm or a 3:00pm bus departure home. The late bus will leave BHS at 3:45pm.
Note:
- The Cafeteria will be serving a "grab and go" breakfast option.
