Dear Parents,
We're emailing you now to let you know about an optional activity for 5th graders at Todd. This club is a great fit for children who LOVED a book that they read just recently or over the summer! See attached.
Please note that registration is required by no later than Monday, September 27th. Please register only after discussing it with your child to be sure it is something he or she wants to do.
The Video Book Talk Club is a collaborative club led by the Briarcliff Manor Public Library and Todd Library librarians. The club will meet virtually after school on Microsoft Teams. Club members will come together to write, edit, and record a "mini-commercial" about a book they read recently that they'd like other students to know about. Ultimately, all of the book talks are posted on the school and public library websites.
This year, students can choose to do their book talk solo or with one partner. As in years past, the plan is to complete all activities during our meetings.
Here are some more details about the club:
- We will have an introductory meeting on Monday, Oct. 4th from 4:00 – 5:15 pm for all registered.
- After that initial meeting, the Club will be divided into small groups and each group will have its own set of meeting dates. These smaller group meetings will meet on FIVE sequential Mondays from 4:00 - 5:15 p.m.
- If Mondays are impossible, we may have one small group on FIVE Tuesdays. These would also be from 4:00 – 5:15 p.m. Please let us know if Tuesdays are strongly preferred.
- Later in the school year we plan to celebrate all the club members and their book talks one evening. This celebration event is for the book talkers and their families to attend.
If your child wants to participate in Video Book Talk Club, please register by emailing both Tara Phethean TPhethean@briarcliffschools.org and Amy Kaplan abgkaplan@gmail.com by no later than September 27th with the following information:
1.Your child's full name
2.The title of the book they want to book talk (a book they already read and liked, and if they're working with a partner, a book they have both read and liked).
3. Please confirm that Mondays work with your schedule. If Mondays are impossible, we may have one small group on five Tuesdays. Let us know if Tuesdays are strongly preferred.
Please mark your calendar for the October 4th meeting. We will be in touch about your child's additional five meeting dates soon after the registration deadline.
