Dear Parents and Students of the Class of 2020,
Graduation 2020 will most certainly be a memorable one as it honors a class of 136 Seniors who possess incredible fortitude, resilience, and BEAR pride in their hearts. While it may not be the traditional graduation ceremony bestowed upon past classes, this class will always be remembered as exceptional students and compassionate individuals, unique in their own way. The Briarcliff High School community looks to the Class of 2020 for inspiration and hope for the future.
It has been a rollercoaster of evolving graduation plans as the months have passed. Having said that, we are extremely grateful to the supportive parent group and dedicated Senior Class Advisors, Mrs. Safer and Mrs. McCarthy, who have provided the expertise and tireless effort to help arrange the following plans for Graduation 2020:
Tuesday, June 9th: Time: 2:30 pm - 4:00 pm Curbside Pick-up of academic attire as per student time slot indicated below: Pickup schedule and procedures: If your LAST name begins with A - H, come from 2:30 pm - 3:00 pm If your LAST name begins with I - P, come from 3:00 pm - 3:30 pm If your last name beings with Q - Z, come from 3:30 pm - 4:00 pm
Pick up rules (no exceptions): 1) You must wear a mask, drive up to the main entrance of the school, and pop your trunk. A staff member will put the academic attire package in your trunk, and you will leave as per the instructions in #2. 2) Do not pull around any cars. If it is nice weather, we will have 3 pick up stations along the road in front of the main entrance. Even if you are done, don't pull out until the person (people) in front of you pull out. 3) Please do not get out of your car.
· Students may appropriately decorate their caps · All honor sashes, cords, medals will be placed in each student's academic attire bag. · Please take care when de-wrinkling the academic attire. The gowns are disposable; therefore, the material is sensitive to a hot iron.
Wednesday, June 10th: 9:00 am - 11:00 am: Auditorium Pre-recording of speeches Required attendees: Student Government Co-Presidents: Emma Smoler, Katy Burns; Principal: Mrs. Debora French; Salutatorians: Michael Tu, Gil Halevi; Valedictorian: Daniel de Castro; Superintendent: Dr. James Kaishian; Senior Class Selected Faculty Speaker: Mr. Michael Inglis.
Wednesday, June 10th: 11:15 am - 5:00 pm (weather permitting): Game Day Field Thursday, June 11th (rain date): 11:15 am - 5:00 pm Pre-recording of Seniors receiving diplomas in center of Game Day Field Class of 2020 names read from amplified system by Senior Class Co-Presidents: Katherine Sullivan and Andrew Winiarski
· Senior groups arrive as per the assigned time dressed in cap and gown with face covering. Group 1: A - Goldstein: 11:15 am - 12:15 pm Group 2: Gomez - K: 12:15 pm - 1:15 pm Group 3: L - Minkoff: 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm Group 4: Mohideen - R: 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm Group 5: S - Z: 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm
· Seniors are directed in groups of 10 with 6 feet separations by BHS security to proceed to Game Day Field. · Each student walks across the middle of the game day field, steps onto the platform, picks up diploma from center table. · Socially responsible congratulatory gesture by administrators to graduates and · Each student poses for photo by Island Photography. · The pre-recording session is for students only as per the current regulations prohibiting large gatherings. In the event Governor Cuomo modifies the restrictions in advance of June 10th, we will contact parents in order to view the event.
