Dear Families,
I wanted to share with you a poem that is written by Jellaludin Rumi, a 13th century Iranian Poet. The poem expresses many things, but its core message is to open ourselves to whatever life brings to us. I think this is an important message for us today, when so much is out of our control. What we can control is our attitude and commitment to greet whatever life throws at us without fear and with whatever subtle faith we can muster. This allows us to become wiser, kinder and more compassionate to ourselves and others. I like to believe that his message is just as meaningful now as it was in the 13th century. I hope you enjoy this poem as much as I do.
The Guest House This being human is a guest house. Every morning a new arrival. A joy, a depression, a meanness, some momentary awareness comes as an unexpected visitor. Welcome and entertain them all! Even if they are a crowd of sorrows, who violently sweep your house empty of its furniture, still, treat each guest honorably. He may be clearing you out for some new delight. The dark thought, the shame, the malice. meet them at the door laughing and invite them in. Be grateful for whatever comes. because each has been sent as a guide from beyond. — Jellaludin Rumi,
