April 14, 2020 Dear Todd Families, With the second half of the school year in progress, albeit in an unconventional manner, and the 2020-21 school year on the horizon, we are preparing for the class placement process for next year. Research indicates that all students benefit from classes that are rich in diversity, aptitude, culture, achievement and interests. Our goal is to create balanced, heterogeneous classes by establishing a process that is comprehensive and includes the professional faculty. Whether this process is accomplished face to face or virtually, we will put a great deal of care and consideration into this process and every effort will be made to maximize the learning potential of each child. We assure you that we give each child careful and considerate attention whether or not a parent chooses to fill out a form. If you wish to submit information to us, please fill out the form (attached). Please include your child's first and last name. If you are sending information for multiple children, a separate letter for each child would be appreciated. Please note that submitting information does not guarantee preferences will be honored. The final placement of each child is the responsibility of the professional staff and administration. Here are a few other points to consider:
- Requests for a specific teacher cannot be honored. You may request that your child NOT have a teacher IF that teacher has taught your child before or if that teacher has taught your child's sibling.
- While we understand that children want to be in class with their friends, there are often reasons for not doing so. Sometimes, you request this, but our teachers may recommend that students be separated. Please know that we try to have at least one friend for each child in the class, but that this is not our primary factor in placement. With this said, we would like to know of any special circumstances that need to be considered when placing your child next year.
- Forms must be emailed to coneillmangan@briarcliffschools.org by April 24th.
- If you are planning to move out of Briarcliff, please let us know as soon as possible so that we can help facilitate that process for you.
The key ingredient in this process is trust. Please trust that the faculty will make the best placement decision possible with all the information at our disposal. Teachers at Todd have spent a year with your child and know his/her individual educational and social emotional strengths and needs. As you can see, this is an extremely thorough process. We assure you we will do our very best for every child. Regards, Colleen O'Neill-Mangan coneillmangan@briarcliffschools.org 45 ingham Road, Briarcliff Manor, NY - 10510 |
