COVID-19 Response Guide for Families
September 8, 2021
Dear Briarcliff Families:
This letter includes an update to the District's COVID-19 Response Guide for Families. Please find clarification and additional information in the Returning a Student to School Protocol section of this guide.
COVID-19 Response Guide for Families
It is the family's responsibility to send a student to school with a well-fitted mask that covers from the bridge of the nose to under their chin and lays flat on their cheeks. Please check and adjust if the mask slides down and if there are gaps on the cheeks before sending your child to school. Students are expected to wear a well-fitted mask correctly and consistently while in school and on District provided transportation.
If your child or teen is not feeling well for any reason, please keep them home for the day and contact your child's school nurse.
COVID-19 Screening Protocol:
People with COVID-19 have reported a wide range of symptoms. Students and adults can experience mild symptoms to severe illness. And symptoms may appear anywhere from 2 to 14 days after exposure to an infected individual.
Each morning, please screen your child or teen for the following COVID-19 symptoms/exposure:
- Fever or chills
- Cough
- Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
- Fatigue
- Muscle or body aches
- Headache
- New loss of taste or smell
- Sore throat
- Congestion or runny nose
- Nausea or vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Exposure to a COVID-19 positive individual
If your child or teen is experiencing any of the above symptoms or has been exposed to a COVID-19 positive individual, please keep them home and contact your child's school nurse.
Please be advised that this list does not include all possible COVID-19 symptoms. Children and teens with COVID-19 may experience any, all, or none of these symptoms.
Returning a Student to School Protocol:
The Briarcliff Manor School District will follow CDC and WCDOH COVID safety and quarantine guidelines. The following is a protocol designed to inform families what will be required before returning students to school should they be exposed to COVID-19 or experience COVID-19 symptoms.
Each exposure situation may involve unique circumstances. The WCDOH may therefore impose different requirements on individuals depending upon the exact nature of the exposure/activity. The procedures below cover most situations, and the District will do its best to facilitate WCDOH communication with individual families that involve school related activities. If you have any questions about how to properly handle a situation involving your child, please contact your child's school nurse or building administration.
Please keep our schools safe by keeping your child home and by contacting your child's school nurse should they be exposed to COVID-19 or become symptomatic. And please contact your child's school nurse if your child or any household member is required to quarantine.
Vaccinated Students

Once again, we look forward to your anticipated cooperation and a safe and productive school year.
Appreciatively,
