The Next Piece of the Graduate Attributes Puzzle: Personal Agency

This year, our districtwide focus is Personal Agency. By helping students recognize their strengths, make choices about their learning, and take steps toward meaningful goals, we are helping them grow into capable and confident learners. Personal agency is an attribute students will carry with them throughout their years in Briarcliff and long after they graduate.

What does personal agency look like in our schools?

Making Learning Active
Academic and extracurricular opportunities give students room to explore their interests, make choices, and discover what motivates them.

A Growth Mindset
Students learn to set goals, reflect on their progress, adapt when something isn’t working, and take ownership of their growth.

The Ability to Do Well and Be Well
Through meaningful challenge, success, and self-advocacy, students develop the confidence to understand their needs, make sound choices, and navigate challenges. In this way, doing well and being well become mutually reinforcing parts of their growth.
